The Gospel of Matthew tells the story of wise men from the east following the Christmas star to Jerusalem, and then to Bethlehem. The Gospel of Luke tells about the night of Christ’s birth—of angel choirs and lowly shepherds rejoicing together at the plan of ~GOD~ unfolding before their eyes in the Person of ~JESUS~…
But those two Gospels give us another, even more astounding aspect of Christmas…
When most people get around to reading the New Testament, they’re surprised that such a thrilling story seems to begin with a yawn. Matthew, the first book of the New Testament, begins with a genealogy. Is the fact that [Azor begat Sadoc] an important part of Christ’s story? It is crucial!!!
“The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham…”
{Matthew 1:1 KJV}
Starting with Abraham, Matthew gives the genealogy of Joseph—the adoptive father of ~JESUS~. That genealogy shows that ~JESUS~ is a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It shows that ~JESUS~ can rightfully be called by The Messianic Title, “Son Of David”. Through the generations, ~GOD~ had been preparing for the birth of ~JESUS~…
Luke gives us Mary’s genealogy. Mary was The Lord’s physical mother. She, too, was a descendant of David and of the Patriarchs. Between the two genealogies, we learn that ~JESUS~ was physically and legally qualified to be Israel’s ~MESSIAH~…
“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God…”

Today, most of Christendom believes that ~GOD’s~ promises to the physical descendants of Israel have become null and void. They believe ~GOD~ ditched Abraham’s physical descendants in favor of the Church. They see the Church as [spiritual] Israel…
In his ministry’s magazine, the late, R. C. Sproul articulated the idea that the Church replaced Israel in the program of ~GOD~. “We’re not dispensationalists here”, he wrote. “We believe that the church is essentially Israel. We believe that the answer to, What about the Jews? is, Here we are”…
But if being a physical descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob can be canceled out and the Jews can be replaced by [spiritual] descendants, why was it important for the New Testament to show the precise lineage of ~JESUS~? Why not just have a [spiritual] descendant of Abraham and David be The ~MESSIAH~???
The answer is that ~GOD’s~ Word is Paramount. Through the Prophets, ~GOD~ clearly said certain literal things about The ~MESSIAH~. If ~JESUS~ had not been a literal, physical descendant of David, He could not be The ~MESSIAH~. No one would have even considered it a possibility!!!
~GOD~ made sure that His Word contains these two crucial genealogies. They prove that He takes His Word seriously. He is not capricious. His Word can be trusted. And when He says, “Israel”, He literally means [Israel]. The New Testament uses the word [Israel] 75-times. And in each instance, it means the literal, physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob…
Christmas shows yet again that ~GOD~ means every word He speaks. And that means you can trust Him completely…

What did ~JESUS~ mean when He said that ~GOD~ had abandoned Him???
This has always puzzled me, because if ~JESUS~ was actually [The Son of ~GOD~], then how could ~GOD~ abandon Him???
You are referring to some of ~JESUS’~ last recorded words, spoken while He was dying on The Cross:
“And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me???”
{Mark 15:34 KJV}
What did He mean by this???
Was He suddenly filled with doubt, wondering if He had misunderstood the mission ~GOD~ had given Him???
Was He filled with despair, concluding He was a failure and all His work was in vain???
After all [some have said], the crowds had turned against Him, and seemingly His ministry had come to an abrupt end…
But, in reality His words point to something far different. They point to the fact that when ~JESUS~ died on The Cross, all our sins—without exception—were transferred to Him. He was without sin, for He was ~GOD~ in human flesh. But, as He died all our sins were placed on Him, and He became the final and complete sacrifice for our sins. And in that moment He was banished from the presence of ~GOD~, for sin cannot exist in ~GOD’s~ presence. His cry speaks of this truth; He endured the separation from ~GOD~ that you and I deserve…
This is a profound truth—and yet it also should bring us great comfort. Because Christ died for us, we need not fear Death, or Hell, or Judgment!!!
The Bible says:
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit…”
{1 Peter 3:18 KJV}
~GOD~ didn’t abandon ~JESUS~, and He won’t abandon you. Make Him part of your life today…

Today, Christians around the world are celebrating ~JESUS’~ triumphal entry into Jerusalem [which we usually call “Palm Sunday,” because the crowd welcomed Him by spreading palm branches in His path]. Those who greeted ~JESUS~ were convinced He was the Messiah, or “anointed one,” sent by ~GOD~ to establish His Kingdom on earth…
So, why did the crowds turn against ~JESUS~ so quickly? One week they welcomed Him, and the next week they demanded He be crucified!!!
No events in human history were more important than ~JESUS’~ death and resurrection, and yet many people [even Christians] never take time to study them…
It must have been a dramatic sight as ~JESUS~ approached Jerusalem on a donkey [which was a sign of His humility]…
The Bible says:
“And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!!!”
{Luke 19:37-38 KJV}
Even those who weren’t part of that welcoming crowd listened eagerly to His teaching during the next few days…
But not everyone in Jerusalem welcomed Him:
“And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out!!!”
{Luke 19:39-40 KJV}
But soon many turned against ~JESUS~ and demanded His death:
“Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified!!!”
{Matthew 27:22 KJV}
These weren’t necessarily the same people who had welcomed Him—but the reversal is still striking. Were they disappointed because He refused to establish an earthly political kingdom? Probably. But ~JESUS~ didn’t come to set up a new political system. He came instead to change our hearts and save us from our sins by His death and resurrection…
He declared during that last week:
“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence…”
{John 18:36 KJV}
This deeply disappointed those who hoped He would throw out the hated Roman occupiers. They may also have disliked His demand that they repent…
Where would you have been on that first Palm Sunday? Among the disciples who welcomed Him—or among the skeptical crowds? It’s easy to condemn those who condemned ~JESUS~ but would we have acted any differently? We too are sinners, and we too have rebelled against ~GOD~…
But the central message of Easter is that ~GOD~ still loves us, and because of Christ we can be forgiven…
He came for one reason:
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit…”
{1 Peter 3:18 KJV}

~GOD’s Devine Creation~
Father ~JESUS~
Our Father and our ~GOD~ as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of Your presence and Your guidance as we face the future…
We each have our own hopes and expectations for the new year that is ahead of us—but You alone know what it holds for us, and only You can give us the strength and the wisdom we will need to meet its challenges. So help us to humbly put our hands into You’re hand, and to trust You and to seek You’re will for our lives during this coming year…
In the midst of life’s uncertainties in the days ahead, assure us of the certainty of You’re unchanging love…
In the midst of life’s inevitable disappointments and heartaches, help us to turn to You for the stability and comfort we will need…
In the midst of life’s temptations and the pull of our stubborn self–will, help us not to lose our way but to have the courage to do what is right in You’re sight, regardless of the cost…
And in the midst of our daily preoccupations and pursuits, open our eyes to the sorrows and injustices of our hurting world, and help us to respond with compassion and sacrifice to those who are friendless and in need. May our constant prayer be that of the ancient Psalmist:
“Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end…”
{Psalms 119:33 KJV}
We pray for our nation and its leaders during these difficult times, and for all those who are seeking to bring peace and justice to our dangerous and troubled world. We pray especially for You’re protection on all those who serve in our armed forces, and we thank You for their commitment to defend our freedoms, even at the cost of their own lives. Be with their families also, and assure them of You’re love and concern for them…
Bring our divided nation together, and give us a greater vision of what You would have us to be. In You’re Holy–Word we are reminded that:
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance…”
{Psalms 33:12 KJV}
As we look back throughout history we thank You for You’re goodness to us—far beyond what we have deserved. May we never presume on You’re past goodness or forget all You’re mercies to us, but may they instead lead us to repentance, and to a new commitment to make You the foundation and center of our lives this new year…
And so, our Father, we thank You for the promise and hope of this new year, and we look forward to it with Great expectation and faith. All this I humbly ask in the name of our Lord and Savior, who by His death and Resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come…

In Congress, July 4, 1776. The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation…
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only…
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures…
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people…

He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries…

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures…
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power…

For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor…
