*Can You Take Anything With You To Heaven???*
*We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001…*
In this increasingly self-indulgent world it’s vital for Christians to remember that, “~GOD~ Is Love.” Ours is a global society of novels, motion pictures and commercials festooned with hearts and flowers, where “Love” has become a marketable commodity. It’s no surprise to anyone that love has become a product, bought and sold in a myriad of goods, services and social diversion; in spoken and written word, music and videos, much of it cheap and shockingly disgusting. Photos and abbreviated chatter are the expression of interconnection, but of what sort? We are a society in search of relationship. On the streets and in the stores, hatred abounds. In a world that has increasingly divided itself into competitive tribes bent on destroying their competition, love is being systematically replaced by anger-driven, self-righteous superiority. For the past two millennia, the most loyal of Church leaders have preached the necessity of love of the self-sacrificing sort exhibited by ~JESUS~. Sadly, even in the Church, love has repeatedly been subverted in a series of internecine battles, to be replaced by various strange and new creeds, each ironically foretold in Biblical Prophecy and acted out by those hungry for legalism or power. Outside the Church, socio-political history is a series of disasters. Christian love has been relegated to the back benches of society, where it can still be found if one looks hard enough. But for how long???
In the Twentieth Century, oil, electricity and telecommunications made society a fluid and explosive organism. Blessedly, it also became possible to preach Christ to millions on a scale hitherto undreamed of. It was assumed that America would always be characterized by a stable spiritual base; upon which “Polite Society” supposedly rested. The civilized society of the Western World lived through two World Wars. ~GOD~ was feared and worshipped as Creator, Redeemer, Judge and Protector, as various “isms” rose and fell. With gratitude, we sang the National Anthem, along with, “~GOD~ Bless America.” There was the conviction that He had rescued us through the dark period of war that caused almost a hundred million deaths around the world! When the wars finally cooled, we began a forty-year race toward the commercial paradise that was assumed to bring stability and contentment to the next three or four generations. That race–toward self-fulfillment–has brought an upwelling of self-seeking doubt and embarrassingly vulgar self-aggrandizement. Love is a smart-phone selfie, sent to who-knows-where!!!
Among Christians, it is always remembered in the common faith that ~GOD~ Personifies Love. Bible-believing Christians never really forget that:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life…”
But the past four or five generations have dropped that idea like a hot potato. Information about spiritual truth is not passed from older to younger, but from child to child. Fragmented and disassociated communication has become superstitious secularism, serving a spiritual goal in the electronic cloud that has no real core of truth…
Were it not for Scripture, these could be very depressing days, indeed. Here’s the upside:
In the Bible, we find the most remarkable and revolutionary statement in the history of planet Earth. Comprised of three little words, and found only twice, it is penned by the Apostle John:
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love…”
Soon after that, he repeats:
“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him…”
~GOD’s~ Love is the highest form of love. It transcends all worldly intelligence:
Philosophy, mathematics, the physical sciences—even the cutting-edge smart sciences, whose looming artificial intelligence can only control mankind. It cannot nurture. It knows nothing of family or of a fulfilling life in the assurance of a Loving ~GOD~ throughout all eternity! We have been Blessedly Saved from a society that is epigrammatically, “looking for love in all the wrong places.” And it is our calling to spread The Word about the real source of authentic Love…
