Natural Abilities Are No Substitute For The Spirit of ~GOD~

In {MATTHEW 25} we find the parable of the wise and foolish virgins–five who had their lamps filled with oil and five who did not. When the bridegroom came, the ones with oil were ready and the ones without oil were left. We know that throughout the Bible, oil is representative of the Spirit of GOD. We cannot accomplish what GOD has called us to accomplish in the natural. We can only accomplish GOD’s will through His Spirit.

There are many examples in the Bible that shed light on this thought. In {JUDGES 13-16} we find the story of Samson. He was a man who was called and Anointed of GOD who found himself in compromising positions with the world. By sharing the secret of his strength and allowing his hair to be cut, he lost his GOD-Given Strength.

We find in {MARK 4} an account of the disciples in a boat with JESUS. As they were crossing the sea, a great storm arose. The disciples tried everything they knew to keep the boat from sinking. No doubt they used every bit of natural strength and wisdom they had, but to no avail. After they had given up on their natural abilities, they went to JESUS and said, “Master do you not care if we perish?” JESUS walked to the front of the boat and simply said, “Peace Be Still,” and a great calm came over the sea. Their natural abilities could not accomplish what JESUS had just done.

These are three accounts of many in the Bible where people have tried, for good reasons, to use only their natural abilities. It is easy for all of us to follow the same path. Many times in my life I have become so busy I have neglected the things of GOD, thereby losing the Anointing. The danger of this position is many times this happens and we do not even realize it. There is no substitute for a right relationship with GOD that is developed through a daily communion with Him. Not only can we not accomplish what He has called us to do, but when tragedy strikes, we are weak and helpless and others suffer with us.

Are you running on your own natural abilities, going through the motions, doing what seems right while all the time neglecting your daily relationship with JESUS? Is it time to slow down from the hassles of this world and put first things first?

Spirit Man or Flesh Man???

Everything that we do in life is based on choices. We are the results of the choices we make. If when we look in the mirror we don’t like what we see, then we need to change our choices. We can never become what we need to be by remaining what we are. As one catchy phrase says, “If we always do what we’ve always done, we’ll always get what we’ve always got.”

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ ~JESUS~, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ ~JESUS~ hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”
{Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭1-2‬ KJV}

This Scripture separates those who know Christ’s redeeming work on the cross from those who have never experienced the new birth. The last part of the above verse deals with the law of the spirit of life and the law of sin and death. To have the best ~GOD~ has for me and to have my spiritual ears open so the Spirit can lead me, I must choose to follow the law of the spirit of life. There is another Scripture that deals with this:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of ~GOD~, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
{‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭33‬ KJV}

We as Christians have access to the wisdom of ~GOD~, but we must seek His wisdom. I have seen many people in times of trouble go to well meaning people for answers and advice, but in many cases, while these were educated people, they were not powerful men and women of ~GOD~. I have never understood why Christian people would seek the wisdom of the world in making decisions. ~GOD’s~ wisdom is always best. We can never make spiritual decisions from a natural mindset.

My question for you today is, “Who is guiding your life, who is influencing you, who is molding you, who is leading you?” If ~JESUS~ Christ is not the answer to this question, you should reevaluate where you are headed and then make Him the answer and stay the course.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
{‭John‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ KJV}

How to Appreciate an Imperfect Spouse…

*Billy Graham’s Message*

In the same way, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way. Though they are weaker partners, honor them as equal heirs of the grace of life. In this way, your prayers will not be hindered.
{1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬ TLV}

In any case, let each of you love his own wife as himself, and let the wife respect her husband.
{Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭33‬ TLV}

For we all stumble in many ways. If someone does not stumble in speech, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.
{Jacob [James] 3‬:‭2‬ TLV}

“Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly the speck in your brother’s eye, to take it out.”
{Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭41-42‬ TLV}

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any virtue and if there is anything worthy of praise—dwell on these things.
{Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ TLV}

Then Paul said to him, “God is going to strike you on the mouth, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit judging me according to the Torah, and yet in violation of the Torah you order me to be struck?” Those standing nearby said, “Do you insult God’s kohen gadol?” Paul said, “I didn’t know, brothers, that he is the kohen gadol. For it has been written, ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’”
{Acts‬ ‭23‬:‭3-5‬ TLV}

The Gospel of John 11
Lazarus Is Dead
1 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Miriam and her sister Martha. 2 This was the same Miriam who anointed the Master with perfume and wiped His feet with her hair. It was her brother Lazarus who was sick. 3 So the sisters sent a word to Yeshua, saying, “Master, the one you love is sick!” 4 When Yeshua heard this, He said, “This sickness will not end in death. It is for God’s glory, so that Ben-Elohim may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Yeshua loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 However, when He heard that Lazarus was sick, He stayed where He was for two more days. 7 Then after this, He said to His disciples, “Let’s go up to Judea again.” 8 “Rabbi,” the disciples say to Him, “just now the Judean leaders were trying to stone You! And You’re going back there again?” 9 Yeshua answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours in the day? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of the world. 10 But if a man should walk around at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” 11 After He said this, He tells them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I’m going there to wake him up.” 12 So the disciples said to Him, “Master, if he has fallen asleep, he will get better.” 13 Now Yeshua had spoken about his death, but they thought He was talking about ordinary sleep. 14 Then Yeshua told them clearly, “Lazarus is dead! 15 I’m glad for your sake I wasn’t there, so that you may believe. Anyway, let’s go to him!” 16 Then Thomas called the Twin said to the other disciples, “Let’s go too, so that we may die with Him!”
Comforting the Mourners
17 So when Yeshua arrived, He discovered that Lazarus had been in the tomb already for four days. 18 Bethany was less than two miles from Jerusalem, 19 and many of the Judeans had come to Martha and Miriam to console them about their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Yeshua was coming, she went out to meet Him; but Miriam sat in the house. 21 Martha said to Yeshua, “Master, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died! 22 But I know, even now, that whatever You may ask of God, He will give You.” 23 Yeshua said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to Him, “I know, he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Yeshua said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life! Whoever believes in Me, even if he dies, shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She says to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, Ben-Elohim who has come into the world.” 28 After she said this, she left and secretly told her sister Miriam, “The Teacher is here, and He’s calling for you.” 29 As soon as Miriam heard, she quickly got up and was coming to Him. 30 Now Yeshua had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met Him. 31 The Judeans, who were with Miriam in the house and comforting her, seeing how quickly she got up and went out, followed her. They thought she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32 So when Miriam came to where Yeshua was, she saw Him and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Master, if You had been here, my brother would not have died!” 33 When Yeshua saw her weeping, and the Judeans who came with her weeping, He was deeply troubled in spirit and Himself agitated. 34 “Where have you laid him?” He asked. “Come and see, Master,” they tell Him. 35 Yeshua wept. 36 So the Judeans said, “See how He loved him!” 37 But some of them said, “Couldn’t this One, who opened the eyes of the blind man, have also kept this man from dying?”
Yeshua’s Word Raises the Dead
38 So Yeshua, again deeply troubled within Himself, comes to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39 Yeshua says, “Roll away the stone!” Martha, the dead man’s sister, said to Him, “Master, by this time he stinks! He’s been dead for four days!” 40 Yeshua says to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they rolled away the stone. Yeshua lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard Me. 42 I knew that You always hear Me; but because of this crowd standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 And when He had said this, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 He who had been dead came out, wrapped in burial clothes binding his hands and feet, with a cloth over his face. And Yeshua tells them, “Cut him loose, and let him go!”
Better that One Man Die
45 Therefore many of the Judeans, who had come to Miriam and had seen what Yeshua had done, put their trust in Him. 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Yeshua had done. 47 So the ruling kohanim and Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What are we doing?” they asked. “This Man is performing many signs! 48 If we let Him go on like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our holy place and our nation.” 49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was kohen gadol that year, said to them, “You know nothing! 50 You don’t take into account that it is better for you that one man die for the people rather than for the whole nation to be destroyed.” 51 Now he did not say this by himself; but as the kohen gadol that year, he prophesied that Yeshua would die for the nation. 52 And not for the nation only, but also so that He might gather together into one the scattered children of God. 53 So from that day on, they plotted to kill Him. 54 Therefore Yeshua no longer walked openly among the Judeans, but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with His disciples. 55 Now the Jewish Passover was near; and many people went up out of the regions to Jerusalem before Passover, to purify themselves. 56 So they were searching for Yeshua, saying to one another as they stood in the Temple, “What do you think? Won’t He come to the feast at all?” 57 Now the ruling kohanim and Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it so that they might arrest Him.

Psalms 55
Betrayal by a Friend
1 For the music director, on stringed instruments, a contemplative song of David. 2 Give ear, O God, to my prayer and do not ignore my plea for help. 3 Listen to me and answer me. I am restless in my complaint and moan—4 because of the voice of the enemy, because of the pressure of the wicked. For they thrust trouble on me, and in anger bear a grudge against me. 5 My heart shudders within me and the terrors of death sweep over me. 6 Fear and trembling come upon me and horror has overwhelmed me. 7 So I said, “Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and find rest. 8 Surely I would flee far away. I would stay in the wilderness. Selah 9 I would hurry to my shelter from the rushing wind of the storm. 10 Lord, confuse and confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city. 11 Day and night they make the rounds on her walls. Iniquity and mischief are within her. 12 Ruins are in her midst. Oppression and deceit never leave her square. 13 For if it were an enemy taunting me, I could endure it. If my foe was exalting himself over me, I could hide from him. 14 But it is you, a man like me—my companion and my close friend! 15 Together we enjoyed great fellowship. We used to walk with the throng in the House of God. 16 Let desolation come upon them, let them go down alive into Sheol—for evil is in their dwelling, among them. 17 As for me, I will call on God, and ADONAI will save me. 18 Evening, morning and noon, I complain and moan, then He hears my voice. 19 He will redeem my soul in shalom from the battle against me. For many are striving with me. 20 God will hear and humble them—yes, the One enthroned of old. Selah Nothing changes—they do not fear God. 21 My companion put forth his hands against those at peace with him, as he violates his covenant. 22 Smoother than butter was his speech, yet war was in his heart. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. 23 Cast your burden on ADONAI, and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken. 24 But You, O God, will bring them down to the Pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty, deceitful men will not live out half their days. But I—I will trust in You.”

Philippians 3
Where Do You Put Your Confidence?
1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord! To keep writing the same things to you is not troublesome for me—but for you it is a safeguard. 2 Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the mutilation. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, who worship by the Ruach Elohim and glory in Messiah Yeshua and have not depended on the flesh—4 though I myself might have confidence in the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he might depend on the flesh, I far more—5 circumcised the eighth day; of the nation of Israel; from the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the Torah, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting Messiah’s community; as for Torah righteousness, found blameless. 7 But whatever things were gain to me, these I have considered as loss for the sake of the Messiah. 8 More than that, I consider all things to be loss in comparison to the surpassing value of the knowledge of Messiah Yeshua my Lord. Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things; and I consider them garbage in order that I might gain Messiah 9 and be found in Him not having my righteousness derived from Torah, but one that is through trusting in Messiah—the righteousness from God based on trust. 10 My aim is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death—11 if somehow I might arrive at the resurrection from among the dead.
Pursuing the Goal
12 Not that I have already obtained this or been perfected, but I press on if only I might take hold of that for which Messiah Yeshua took hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not consider myself as having taken hold of this. But this one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the reward of the upward calling of God in Messiah Yeshua. 15 Therefore let all who are mature have this attitude; and if you have a different attitude in anything, this also God will reveal to you. 16 Nevertheless, let us live up to the same standard we have attained. 17 Brethren, join in following my example and notice those who walk according to the pattern you have in us. 18 (For many walk who are enemies of the cross of Messiah—I have often told you about them, and now I am even weeping as I tell you. 19 Their end is destruction—their god is their belly and their glory is in their shame. They set their minds on earthly things.) 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, and from there we eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. 21 He will transform this humble body of ours into the likeness of His glorious body, through the power that enables Him even to put all things in subjection to Himself.

EPHESIANS 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: 2 Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. 15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

The Sufficiency of ~GOD~

JOHN 10
1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them. 7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. 12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. 19 There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. 20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? 21 Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? 22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. 24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. 39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand, 40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. 41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. 42 And many believed on him there.

2 CORINTHIANS 10
1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you: 2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s. 8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: 9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. 10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand. 17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
